The Dronezone project is a drone-based piece made up of parts (sound layers) contributed by different people. It started with an electric guitar sound (layer 1) and a pedal harmonium (layer 2), both playing the note C – the idea is that it will grow and change as more sounds are added.

Here you can download the project in its current form and/or listen to an excerpt of each of the layers individually. Previous mixes can be heard by following the links at the top of the page.

We have put a limit of six (stereo) tracks onto the project at any one time. So when we reach seven contributions, we will delete the first one, so that the piece will evolve over time. We will take snapshot mixes of the piece every time a new sound is added, which opens up the possibility of eventually creating a ‘master piece’, by cross fading the separate snapshot mixes into each other. As the project evolves, all previous versions of the piece will be available to download from the website.

Would you like to contribute a sound layer to this evolving soundscape? If you would, please send us a copy of the sound texture you’d like to have added, and we will mix it into the existing texture and up-load it.
