In cooperation with the The Institute for Safe, Quiet and Durable Highways and Purdue University, HMMH prepared a demonstration of how pavement types and noise barriers affect traffic noise.

Low-noise pavement has two characteristics that reduce noise. One is that it is smooth for a tire to roll on without bumps that can excite tire vibration. The other is that it is porous, allowing tire noise to be absorbed into the pavement and water to drain away.
