The top ten sound maps by Cities and memory
When I first started Cities and Memory, I knew from the outset that – partially due to my own mild cartographic obsession – I wanted a sound mapping element to the project, sound maps being such a logical and yet evocative and effective way of presenting sound and place together.
I knew I wouldn’t want even to try to compete with the comprehensive scale of, say, Aporee, nor did I want to attempt a hyper-local, hyper-detailed sound map, but rather to add something different to the sound mapping community, which I hope the reimagined world of sounds has achieved.
But when I was setting out and in the many months since then, the following sound maps have been a great source of inspiration and pleasure to me.
So here’s a rundown of ten of my favourite sound maps, with a few details about what I think makes them different, special and worth your valuable listening time!
