ARTIST EXPEDITION DOCUMENTATION 2014

The third Sound Development City Artist Expedition led to the northern European cities of Riga and Helsinki with a group of twelve international artists. The expedition itself and the participant’s projects are documented in this publication, based on the Sound Development City logbook website, radio interviews, working material and selected images. The expedition group was accompanied by writer Uwe Lützen, who observed and reflected on the on-going processes. A selection of his texts are also featured in the publication. The book was designed by Hubertus Design, Zurich.

Expedition 2015

After our northern expedition to Riga and Helsinki in 2014, this year we will be travelling with lightweight and summery baggage. We are heading towards the South East of Europe: the fourth edition of Sound Development City will take place in Belgrade undAthens.

Call for Projects

Sound Development City is looking for independent and dedicated project proposals and work theses that are to be tested and put into practice during a three-weekexpedition to Belgrade and Athens in September 2015.

We are interested in interventions, installations, performances, experiments, moving images, and artistic research projects and concepts which benefit from being on the road, and probe urban environments as sites of both playfulness and social involvement. The projects should be research-based and developed towards this open horizon.

Artists working in all disciplines can apply through the open call process. The key requirements are curiosity, openness to experimentation, process-oriented work, and adventurousness. We also welcome an inter-disciplinary approach and readiness to collaborate. There is no age limit.

An international jury of five will select about ten participants from the submitted applications. The selection criteria are artistic quality, originality and feasibility of realizing the proposed project.

About Sound Development City

The Artist Expedition Sound Development City was initiated by Sound Development in 2012, with the aim of providing creative freedom to artists working in various disciplines.

Each year in late summer, Sound Development City organizes a three-week expedition to two European cities. Ten selected artists working on individual projects are part of the expedition team. Every year new cities are chosen.

The Sound Development City participants are selected through an open call for projects, which addresses artists from all disciplines and from all over the world.

Sound Development City is an adventure, a place for experimentation, and a research lab. Here, work theses can be examined, new project ideas or forms of expression can be tried out and bold visions can be put into practice.

The artist expedition sets off into foreign urban and cultural spaces, in order to strike new paths and break new ground. Sound Development City supports the search for individual means of expression and offers a productive environment for exchange and collaboration.

Sound Development City gives artists time – time for processes to develop, for experimentation, for taking new paths – but also going astray, and for detecting and discovering the unexpected.

Sound Development City is a projet by Sound Development. It was developed in collaboration withHeller Enterprises. The project is financed by Sound Development and organized by Heller Enterprises.
