A través de la lista de correo de .microsound leemos este artículo sobre lo último en armas sónicas (no-letales las llaman, ya que lo mismo solo te dejan un poco sordo) o dispositivos de transimisión sonora de largo alcance (para emitir sirenas, amenazas, avisos, etc). Estas tecnologías, en cualquier caso, parece que estan destinadas por el momento en exclusiva al uso gubernamental de los EE.UU y parte de su testeo ya lo vienen realizando en Iraq desde hace algun tiempo las hordas del ejercito estadounidense.

Resulta inquietante el eslogan de la American Technology Corporation, compañía que fabrica estos cacharros, el cual viene a ser algo asi como «shaping the future of sound». Esperemos que no se cumpla ese futuro, y que «escuchemos» esta tecnología aplicada en otros ámbitos más…. «gratificantes».

L.A. Cops’ Super Sonic Blaster

THERE’S MORE: «I saw LRADs in the Gulf,» says Kevin, commenting at Ace of Spades HQ. «Basically, we hooked them to an iPod or similar mp3 player and sent out warnings in Arabic. Pretty slick. About the size of a stop sign, but only 6 inches. Definitely don’t want to try hand-holding it though. One little sneeze and your buddy could be deaf.»
