SAM archive on the Internet – Since three years from its start, SoundArtMuseum goes on the Internet.
More than one thousand artworks collected through an open call starting from 2004, will be accessible along with all the informations within the database.
In the new Zerynthia and RAM radioartemobile portal, in the section dedicated to SoundArtMuseum all the artists and artworks are listed – in alphabetical order and with a search module – throughout which one can access to all the informations and the multimedia directly on the web page.
Beyond specific informations on the artworks and (when necessary)on the compilation where they are included, the website also displays technical informations, consistent biographical informations and links to other resources and external websites.
The digital platform to access the SoundArtMuseum material allows a direct approach with an important resource which wants to be a tool for researchers for those interested in contemporary arts and multimedia. The consistent body
of artworks in the archive – comprising more than two hundred artists and one thousand artworks, ranges from the Eighties to the first 2000s, and includes artists from different generations and various approaches to sound and its possible uses within artistic practices.
The purpose is to exploit the immediacy of the Internet, on one hand to ease access to the archive (as by now, only physically accessible), on the other to promote and diffuse actual researches by the artists involved and try to set up new dynamics in the fruition of arts. In this perspective, web exhibition and events will be realized with excerpt works from the archive.
The launch of the SoundArtMuseum on the Internet is also the occasion to start an expansion and a renovation of the structure of the archive, with a new Open call starting from May until the end of 2008, for the insertion of new works in the physical and virtual database.
The Open Call is addressed to artists without any limitations of age and provenience. The objective of SoundArtMuseum remains to be a dynamic platform for diffusion of sound researches within artistic practices, with a particular attention to the most innovative ones and a new opportunity to exploit the web to trigger new dynamics of movement and collaboration.
Materials should be sent on an Audio CD support, and separately on a digital format (wave, AIFF, MP3) for their insertion on the digital archive.
