Ear to the Earth 09, EMF’s fourth annual festival of environmental sound, is based on the idea that by listening to the world, we become sensitive to the state of the world.

The theme. Bio-diversity. To the artists in the festival, bio-diversity means interacting with natural as well as urban environments, preserving habitats, understanding how our behavior is affected by our environment.

The music. An early work by Yoko Ono. Performances of commissioned works by Bruce Odland/Sam Auinger and Elliott Sharp. Sounds from Africa recorded by David Monacchi. Interactions with the sounds of frogs by Steven Feld and Nii Otoo Annan, master drummer from Accra, Ghana.
