Unsound was a magazine (1983-1987) where most of these musicians were featured, some for the first time. Unsound was based in San Francisco, but had an international focus and following. At the time it was seen as the best publication of its’ type, featuring groundbreaking articles and interviews with, at the time, were emerging artists, such as Swans, Sonic Youth, Einsturzende Neaubauten, Chris and Cosey, Nurse With Wound, Negativland, among others.
Unsound Redux is a 13 part series about a generation of musicians, writers and artists who began working in the 1980’s and have continued their practice to today.
Each one hour episode focuses on a particular style of music or related topic, such as magazine and fanzines. The series is hosted by the innovative musician Thurston Moore from the band Sonic Youth. The series is about the longevity of the creative process, as well as, about how these creators paved the way for the following generations. Before the internet and at the beginning of desktop publishing, they created magazines, fanzines, flyers, custom LP and cassettes packages. Crowdfunding here
