Sound and Music and no.w.here are offering an artist residency and bursary towards a new moving image work which explores sound as an integral element. We are seeking artists at an early stage in their career who are interested in exploring the creative process and developing their practice. Applications from a range of backgrounds are welcome; you may be a moving image artist looking to explore sound further, or viceversa.
no.w.here,s facilities – otherwise unavailable in the UK outside of commercial labs – are at your disposal, along with mentoring in sound and image from established and experienced artists in response to the needs of your project. You will also have access to no.w.here?s regular workshops, which cover practical and philosophical aspects of working with moving image. A nominal artist,s fee will be given for your time and a production fund of £1500 is available for materials. A travel and accommodation budget will be negotiated for artists based outside of London.
The residency will run for approximately eight weeks, scheduled between May and Autumn 2011, ending with a screening of your finished work at no.w.here and an artist,s talk if required.
The opportunity is focused on artistic development, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to explore their ideas and creative practice. We want to foster discussion across artistic disciplines, and will arrange sessions where all the current participants in our Embedded residencies meet and share ideas.
