From the catalog:
“By producing motion—either of sound itself across several speakers or of people in a specific location—Douglas Henderson creates pieces that are both auditory and spatial. His installations often generate subtle evocations of real objects or recognizable sensory experiences, as is the case with Tickertape. Speakers installed along a corridor trace the evolution of financial technology, from Edison’s refinements to the Bloomberg Terminal. Henderson’s synchronized multichannel mix transmits aural history in the form of a dynamic sound sculpture that mobilizes the surroundings. As visitors pass through the corridor, Woven and fashioned recordings of a working 1870’s tickertape machine, teletype receivers, fax and computer handshakes, keystrokes, alert tones, dissolve the temporal boundaries of history in this undulating citation.»
